Standardization plays a significant role in a market economy. It guarantees quality and contributes to the competitiveness of products and services. Every European country has its own standardization body, responsible for developing national standards and participating in European and international standardization. The Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN), under the Act on Standardization of September 12, 2002 (Journal of Laws 2015, item 1483), is authorized to represent the interests of Poland in standardization at the European and international level.
