PATent LIBrary
The Patent Information Point at Lublin University of Technology is part of the network of
Patent Information Centres.
The national network brings together
27 entities providing services in the field of patent property.
The European network consists of over 300 patent information centres regionally distributed across the member states of the European Patent Office, referred to as “PATLIB centres.” Not all PATLIB centres are associated with libraries.
These centres provide local access to patent information and related issues. They are familiar with the local industrial, economic, and business landscape, and they offer valuable services to university staff and students, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as individual inventors.
Patent information is the knowledge contained in documents published by patent offices of individual countries around the world (where such institutions and regional or international patent offices exist). These include application documents and solutions for which exclusive rights have been granted. Scientific literature containing patent information includes documentation of technical knowledge in journal articles and monographs—in both electronic and printed form. Patent information is also presented in other publications on industrial property, e.g., in works on intellectual property, legal acts, classifications, decisions of adjudicating bodies, scientific and methodological studies, commentaries, and informational guides. Many of these documents are available in online databases. Patent information provides insights of a technical, legal, and business nature.
The staff of these centres are experienced experts in patent search. They can also offer other services in the field of patent information, such as:
- technology and competitor monitoring,
- preparation of patent statistics,
- patent valuation/audits,
- advice on patent strategy,
- guidance on commercialization/technology transfer,
- practical assistance regarding other intellectual property rights.
