September is the month when science moves beyond lecture halls and laboratories to meet participants at the 22nd Lublin Festival of Science. This year’s programme features three projects prepared by the Lublin University of Technology Museum in cooperation with the Retronika Student Research Group operating within the Museum and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as by the Lublin University of Technology Press.
The projects are united by curiosity, understood as one of the fundamental impulses underlying the cognitive process—prompting us to ask questions, seek explanations, and discover connections between the past, the present, and the future.
This project, prepared by members of the Retronika Student Research Group, presents the history of the development of communication technologies—from rotary-dial telephones and telephone exchanges to teleprinters, fax machines, and radios. Participants will learn how devices that transformed the ways in which information was transmitted at successive stages of technological development operated.
This project, prepared by Dr Piotr Kopniak, supervisor of the Retronika Student Research Group, explores the history of data storage media and computer games—from magnetic tapes and floppy disks to successive generations of data-recording technologies. Participants will trace how the world of computer games evolved alongside advances in hardware and data-storage methods. They will also have the opportunity to launch selected classic titles themselves.
The Lublin University of Technology Press invites you to a meeting with Dr hab. Halina Rarot, University Professor, author of the book Philosophy and Psychology in the Face of Life Crises. The discussion will focus on existential crises, the search for meaning, and the question of whether philosophy can help us organise our values and find direction in the contemporary world.
We invite you to explore the detailed descriptions of the projects and reserve your place. Places are limited.
