The Lublin University of Technology Museum took part in the nationwide Night of Museums event for the first time on Saturday, 17 May. Organised under the slogan 'Retro Engine Room', the tour attracted enormous interest, with over 100 visitors in the first two hours alone.
A workshop from a bygone era had been specially designed for the occasion, and the sounds of machines at work enhanced the impression of travelling back in time. This allowed visitors to experience the world of 20th-century science and technology.
The storage area was arranged to present museum exhibits related to the Industrial Revolution, including machines, everyday appliances such as the first cathode ray tube televisions, gramophones, radios and telephones, as well as various types of diagnostic and measuring devices. The highlight of the programme was a demonstration of old car diagnostics, during which Dr Zbigniew Kiernicki demonstrated the use of historical devices and answered a number of detailed questions, showcasing the visitors' commitment and curiosity.
Guests also had the opportunity to view the permanent exhibition 'History and Technology', which documents the development of the Lublin University of Technology, and to visit the museum gallery, where Prof. Leszek Gardyński, co-founder of the museum, acted as their guide.
The event received extensive coverage in the local media. A report on the 'Retro Engine Room' was broadcast on Panorama Lubelska on TVP3 Lublin, and Kurier Lubelski published an interesting photo report.
The event was organised by the Scientific and Technical Information Centre at the Lublin University of Technology. Thank you to all visitors for coming in such large numbers!
