To celebrate the 60^(th) anniversary of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Lublin University of Technology, a special exhibition entitled ‘The Power of Tradition – The Power of Modernity’ has been organised. It is available to view in the main hall on the first floor of the faculty building at 38a Nadbystrzycka Street in Lublin.
It presents the unit's rich history and its contemporary research and teaching potential. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about the Faculty's development from its beginnings in 1964 to the present day, and to reflect and reminisce.
Historical section:
The section devoted to the past presents 144 archival photographs and drawings documenting the following:
- the construction process of the Faculty's first building on the university campus;
- everyday academic life, both formal and informal;
- memories of current and retired employees.
Materials presented include archival photographs of devices such as the ODRA 1305 computer, a homopolar generator model, tape memories, and the IMZ-80 microcomputer.
Professor Andrzej Wac-Włodarczyk, PhD, Eng., who has worked at the Faculty for many years and is currently vice-dean and president of the Lublin Scientific Society, recalls:
'Sometimes it's nice to look back and remember your teachers and colleagues from twenty years ago. Those were the times when there were few student groups and serious entrance exams, and when the first foundations were laid and the first buildings of the Higher School of Engineering were constructed. At that time, we were very proud of its modern design and equipment.'
Contemporary section
The second part of the exhibition showcases the Faculty's current achievements and scientific and research infrastructure. Modern laboratories and workshops are presented, including:
- the electrical energy quality and telemechanics laboratory;
- the motion analysis and eye-tracking workshop;
- fire protection and evacuation systems;
- the optoelectronics laboratory;
- the telecommunications network laboratory.
The exhibition materials come from the Museum of the Lublin University of Technology, the University Archives and the private collections of current and former employees.
