'Retro Centrala' ('Retro Switchboard'): Night of Museums at the Centre fo Scientific and Technical Information

What was communication like before smartphones, instant messaging and the internet became part of everyday life?
During this year’s Night of Museums, the Centre of Scientific and Technical Information invites you to the interactive ‘Retro Centrala’ space — an exhibition dedicated to analogue communication technologies and the history of long-distance information transmission.
Instead of a traditional exhibition, visitors will pass through a series of interactive stations where they can operate the devices themselves and see how old communication systems worked: rotary dial telephones, teletypewriters, vintage radios and classic television sets.
'Retro Centrala' is not merely a display of historical equipment. It is an experience showcasing the physical and technical dimensions of communication from the pre-digital era — a time when every transmission required a physical connection and the signal took a tangible, analogue form.

The event programme is complemented by:
– guided tours of the permanent exhibition 'History and Technology',
– a display of laboratory equipment used at the Lublin University of Technology over the years,
– a microscopy station demonstrating methods of historical materials testing.

The tour takes place at the top of every hour and leads visitors through the museum’s various spaces — from the permanent exhibition, through the gallery of scientific apparatus, to the storage area styled as a historical laboratory, which houses the main interactive section of the exhibition.
